COVID-19 caused two different SOUP events to be canceled in April and July of 2020, but that’s not keeping the organization from continuing planning events to give micro-grants to community organizations and businesses. The next SOUP is scheduled for Thursday, September 24 at 6:00 pm on Cromaine District Library’s South Lawn. Community organizations and businesses submit proposals, and if selected, present at the SOUP in hopes of winning the votes of those in attendance. Stefanie Furge, SOUP coordinator, said “This SOUP is really special because the presenter with the most votes is guaranteed to win a minimum of $1,000. Due to the two canceled SOUPs, we have two $500 Heartland Foundation Grants, that weren’t used in April and July, to start the prize pot at an amazing level! We can have 100 in attendance at SOUP and we ask everyone that attends for a $5 donation. If we can fill the lawn, that is an additional $500 that goes to the winning proposal. We also have an anonymous donor that matches the money brought in at the door and that money (hopefully $500 as well!) will be split between the non-winning presenters. It’s a win-win for everyone selected to present!” The deadline for submitting a proposal for consideration is Thursday, September 17, so enter soon.

Here are the important details about the September 24 SOUP:

1) The starting prize is $1,000 – YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT! How do you get a chance at that? Submit a proposal form!
2) It’s still $5 for food and a vote, but there won’t be a meal, rather a yummy Michigan donut served with either cider or coffee!
3) You will need to bring your own chairs.
4) Due to occupancy restrictions, the maximum number allowed is 100, so you must RSVP.
