April 12, 2024 – Congratulations to Ethan Hawker, Hartland High School Math teacher, on being named the 2024 HCS Teacher of the Year! Hawker graduated from HCS in 1990 and went to the University of Michigan. After graduating in 1995, he taught for a year in Traverse City before coming back home to Hartland in the fall of 1996. This is his 29th year of teaching–and 28 of those years have been in Hartland! Being in the classroom teaching is what he loves most, and after taking on the role of District Math Coach for 2 years and serving as Assistant Principal for Farms for almost 3 years, he’s now back to teaching math. Many students also know him as Coach Hawker for golf, and he was named Region 6 Coach of the Year, and was nominated for Division 1 Coach of the Year in the fall of 2023.

When asked what he loves most about teaching, Hawker said, “That’s easy – I love the relationships and connections I make with students. I enjoy watching the kids understand difficult topics but it is even more rewarding to get to know them as people and to watch them grow into adults.”

Laura Moore, HEA President, said “Ethan is a tremendous asset to us. He is a positive, funny, caring colleague, teacher, and coach and we are delighted to honor his work as a representation of HCS excellence at its best. ”

From the entire community, thank you Mr. Hawker for your dedication to Hartland students and for challenging them with learning every day!
